Sustainability
We have set out to preserve the historic charm of Tigh na Boireach whilst taking account of the contrasting environmental considerations of the 21st century.
The cottage has 4kW of solar panels discretely located in the field next to the cottage with a 10kWh storage battery located in the shed. These provide most of the domestic electricity during the summer months.
Charge Point
We have also installed a 6kW Rolec EV charger next to the entrance to the field. This has a type 2 socket (bring your own charging cable). There is a charge for the electricity, based on the amount you think you used during your stay.
There is a good EV charging infrastructure on the island with rapid chargers located at several locations throughout North and South Uist as well as Benbecula.
Due to the massive increase in our electricity costs, we regret we can no longer offer free EV charging. You are most welcome to use the charger, but we ask that you estimate roughly how much energy you have used, and pay for this at the end of your visit. Our electricity tariff works out at approximately 45p/kWh as we start the 2023 season.
As a guide to costs:
| Battery Capacity | A full charge from empty | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 15kWh (plug-in hybrid) | 12kWh | £4.50 |
| Up to 30kWh | 25kWh | £11.25 |
| Up to 60kWh | 55kWh | £24.75 |
| Up to 80kWh | 72kWh | £32.50 |
| Up to 100kWh | 90kWh | £40.50 |
Details of payment methods are at the cottage, with a bacs bank transfer the preferred method
